The Governing Body support the inclusion of sex education in the school, provided it is fully integrated into the curriculum and not taken out of context or over emphasised.
In practice, this topic is approached during Key Stage 2 science lessons, when it is considered appropriate for the age of and maturity of the pupils. A talk called ‘Growing Up’ is given to the Year 6 pupils by the School Nurse each year. Parents are notified of this.
Parents can withdraw their child from any part of sex education that is outside the compulsory elements in the national curriculum.
Parents wanting to exercise this right are invited to discuss this with the headteacher.
